I’m an avid list maker. If I put something down on paper, the chance I complete the task goes up tremendously. Every month I  jot down all the things I need to accomplish. In efforts to kill two birds with one stone, I’ve began including a resolution or two. This year I’m focusing on my career. In a world where competition is every where, being one step ahead is challenging but necessary. Whatever your career goals may be for the year ahead just merely showing up on time and doing the job won’t cut it. Whether you’re looking to score a promotion or wanting to make an impression, getting more involved in the workplace will definitely give you the advantage .

Take a tour. Whether you’re new to the office or a veteran, a tour will always lead you to a new discovery. The guide always provides you with background information on the company and knowing where that extra printer is will be a time saver!

Eat lunch in the cafeteria. I’m assuming grease stains on your project status is not the impression you want to give your boss. You get a lunch break, use it! It gets sloppy when you eat where you work and it’s important to give yourself a break to guarantee you’re as accurate as possible. Plus you never know who you’ll run into.

Get organized. It’s a new year! Clear your desk of all the clutter and clean out your drawers of all the things you no longer need. Box up last years files or move them to a separate drawer apart from this years files.

Learn something new. If your place of work offers classes or workshops, take them! Even if the course doesn’t relate to you directly, knowing how to use the latest technologies will benefit you in the long run. You never know who you may be able to assist in a time crunch, or when the information will be valuable. The more you know, the better!
